Senior Operations Director

EduFinance - Accra, Ghana - Full Time

This Senior Operations Director will be responsible for Measurement & Evaluation, Data & Business Intelligence, Marketing & Communications and Donor Engagement, Graphic Design and controls, budgeting and business planning functions. The role will also support the Head of Education Finance with EduFinance Program Design, Fundraising, and Donor Engagement.  

RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Measurement, Evaluation, Research and Learning (20%)

  • Oversee the EduFinance research and learning plan.
  • Manage the team to execute the measurement, evaluation, research, and learning agenda according to the EduFinance strategic plan by publicizing stakeholder-facing products that analyze the program's impact.

Marketing and Communications (20%)

  • Oversee the publications of the marketing and communications team through multiple channels, including long-form research pieces, blogs, newsletters, social media, and short-form research notes. 
  • Manage the internal graphic design team, ensuring that outputs meet the needs of the Financial Products, EduQuality, Advancing Partnerships for Improved Learning, and EduFinance MERL team.

Donor Engagement and Reporting (20%)

  • Build relationships and present to potential and existing institutional and private donors to build the pipeline of potential donors, outreach, engagement, and play a role in leading the proposal development process.
  • Prepare progress reports for key institutional donors, including relationship management with key institutional funders, including USAID.

Data and Business Intelligence (10%)

  • Manage the Data and Business Intelligence team to deliver data and business intelligence support for donor reporting, measurement, evaluation, research and learning, and implementation management.

Program Design and Implementation (10%)

  • Design program interventions according to the Results Framework and Theory of Change.
  • Project manage the implementation of interventions alongside the Financial Products and Education Quality program teams.

Fundraising and Proposal Design (10%)

  • Work with Supporting Members to design fundraising proposals and projects.

Operations: Controls, Budgeting and Business Planning (10%)

  • Plan restricted spending to match donor commitments.
  • Contribute to business planning and budgeting decisions for the EduFinance program.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY     

Oversight of the following teams:

  • Data and BI (team size of 3x FTE)
  • Monitoring, Evaluation, Research & Learning (team size of 12x FTE)
  • Marketing and Communications (team size of 2x FTE)
  • Graphic Design (team size of 2x FTE)
  • Operations Manager (team size of 2x FTE)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years’ experience working in operations related functions such as controls, budgeting, business planning, risk management or other related functions. This should include experience managing teams.
  • 10+ years experience raising significant grant funding from institutional funders including multilateral or bi-lateral organizations, corporations, foundations and/or private donors. This should include experience developing proposals and budgets.
  • 10+ years’ experience managing institutional donor relationships. This should include experience with donor reporting functions.
  • 7+ years’ experience managing diverse/multifunctional teams
  • 5+ years experience working with a Measurement, Evaluation, Research and Learning function, including developing Theories of Change, Results Frameworks, and impact indicators.
  • 5+ years’ experience representing organizations in public forums, for example at industry conferences, media or events.
  • Previous experience working in Marketing/Communications
  • Previous experience working with USAID is desirable
  • A strong understanding of the challenges of education in low-income markets.
  • Experience working with teams in Africa, Asia and/or Latin America is desirable.
  • Strong writing, data collection, and ICT skills
  • An understanding of and a commitment to advancing the mission and core values of Opportunity International.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Written and verbal fluency in English required. Fluency in French or Spanish desirable.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Up to 25% international required annually
  • Must be able to travel with minimal notice and maximum flexibility
  • Must be willing to travel independently and without escort or administrative planning support to developing nation contexts
